Do I Need A Permit To Build A Shed – Usually NO

http://www.getfreecashback.today – Do I Need A Permit To Build A Shed

You’re asking do I need a permit to build a shed and most of the time the answer is no. There are exceptions to that.

Size is often the deciding factor of knowing do I need a permit to build a shed. For example in my community the maximum size of shed I can build without a permit is 107 sf. In Portland, Oregon it’s 200 sf. So, check online or call your municipality and find out what there building codes dictate before building.

Also, if the shed requires plumbing and electricity you might require a permit. So, if you’re planning on using it for a guest cottage or wood working shop or something.

Buying supplies for a shed can be expensive. I just recently bought this little used shed that needed rebuilding and spent quite a bit of money to do that. So if you skip the step of getting a permit if required, your community may order you to stop the building, and then the supplies just sit there until you can sort out the problem. So don’t skip that step.

I found a great way to save money when buying supplies. Not just for construction I’m a member of a website that has partnered with thousands of stores. When I shop online using that website I get amazing discounts called cash back from the stores. Real cash, not coupons or points.

You can join as a free member and get from 2% – 14%, or upgrade the membership and get an additional 6% on top of the regular discounts. I’ve been very pleasantly surprised at just how quickly that’s been adding up through the year.

  2. I live in the UK and i live in the US when its winter in the UK, but both countries have virtually the same laws on out buildings such as sheds, depending what they are going to be used for, such as light weight items as garden tools, but if you wish to store a vehicle in it then it gets tricky, or if you wish to use it as a guest sleeping area which some do, again it needs special permits and conditions of build to be conformed to, anyone can place a small shed 6×10 for example and use it for garden tools or children's toys, but if you want to use it for heavy equipment used in a hobby you still need to get a permit, most people don't understand why the government requires you to apply for a permit, for example, a man decides he wants to make fireworks as a hobby in a 10×10 shed, his permit is refused, the reasons are hazardous materials not kept in a safe environment, ie a plain wooden shed with no fire extinguishers or proper containers for said explosive materials, another reason is if you have stored petroleum gels or liquids you need to make sure that the fire department know whats in it by adding signage to tell them so they don't go spraying gallons of water on it and spreading the combustible liquids or gel even further burning down your vehicle which is another reason why we need insurance on your vehicles as well as home insurance….

  3. Must be nice.. In Florida any shed of any size needs a permit… So much for owning your own property and the freedom to build a shed without having to pay the city or county for permission… Legalized robbery .. Makes my blood boil !!

  6. what if you use it as kind of a workshop and you don't add electricity per say but you put in a window unit and only use a little honda generator to run the AC when it is hot only while you're in their working or building or fixing stuff, my use would be to reload ammunition, and maybe store a few things.
